BlackBerry Paging

1. How does BlackBerry Paging Work?

BlackBerry Paging provides services that are similar to those of other paging carriers. However, it operates over the Cingular Interactive Intelligent Wireless NetworkSM in the United States and the Rogers™ AT&T® wireless data network in Canada. Both networks offer broad coverage, nationwide roaming, fast messaging and reliable delivery. Even if your handheld is turned off or temporarily out of coverage, your messages will be stored and forwarded automatically when you return to coverage. Back to top.

2. How is BlackBerry Paging different from the email I receive to my BlackBerry handheld?

BlackBerry Paging is a one-way communication to your BlackBerry handheld; pages are not logged in the same manner that emails are, and they cannot be replied to using your handheld. They act as traditional pages do and are not sent to your corporate email box and are not routed through your inbox. Pages are discerned on your handheld by a telephone icon.  Back to top.

3. What BlackBerry Paging options are available?

Currently there are five Back to top.

4. How do I change my paging service?

You can easily change your paging service from one package to another through calling eAccess at 1-847-991-7190. Back to top.

5. What are the service rates?

6. What are the coverage areas for BlackBerry Paging?

Your BlackBerry handheld can receive a page wherever it has coverage, the same as email for your handheld. For information on the BlackBerry coverage areas, visit our coverage section. If you are out of coverage, incoming pages are stored and forwarded to your handheld when you return to coverage. BlackBerry Paging can operate in both Canada and the U.S., however, the standard paging service will allow you to receive messages in your home country only. With the optional purchase of cross-border roaming, you can receive both email messages and pages outside your home country - in both the US and Canada. more information on ordering roaming for your BlackBerry handheld. Back to top.

7. Will this solution work for BlackBerry customers in U.S. and Canada?

BlackBerry Paging is available to all BlackBerry Enterprise Edition customers (BlackBerry Internet Edition customers can contact their service provider). The toll-free numbers that are assigned for paging are accessible throughout the continental U.S. and Canada. Our paging service operates over both the Rogers AT&T network in Canada, and Cingular Interactive Intelligent Wireless Network in the U.S. for delivery of messages. BlackBerry Paging can operate in both countries, however, the standard paging service will allow you to receive messages in your home country only. With the optional purchase of cross-border roaming, you can receive both email messages and pages outside your home country - in both the US and Canada. Click here for more information on ordering roaming for your BlackBerry. Back to top.

8. If I switch to BlackBerry Paging, can I keep my existing paging number?

Telephone numbers are the property of their telephone carriers. They cannot be moved from one carrier to another, so you cannot maintain a number that belongs to another service provider when you switch to BlackBerry Paging. Back to top.

9. Can I request a specific custom paging number?

At this time we cannot provide custom paging numbers (vanity numbers). We are assigned telephone numbers at random and are not able to request specific phone numbers. Back to top.

Using BlackBerry Paging

1. How do I reach a BlackBerry Paging subscriber?

In order to page someone who is a BlackBerry Paging subscriber, they must provide their paging information to you specifically. Paging is a secure feature on BlackBerry and information regarding an end users paging will not be given out without a valid BlackBerry PIN and ESN being provided. The subscriber will provide you with their toll-free number, their Paging PIN and/or Internet Paging PIN for you to use to page them. Back to top.

2. How do I leave a voicemail message?

Voicemail messages can only be left for subscribers with the Enhanced paging option. You dial their custom toll free number, wait for the greeting to finish and leave a voicemail after the tone. When you are finished, you can either press the # key, or hang up to send the message. The subscriber will receive a message on their BlackBerry indicating they have a "New Voice Message", and will call to retrieve it. Back to top.

3. How do I leave a numeric message?

Numeric messages can be left for all paging subscribers. For Basic Paging subscribers, you will dial the number, enter the number 1 followed by their Paging PIN, wait for the greeting to finish and enter the numeric message using the telephone keypad. For Enhanced subscribers, you will dial their custom toll free number, wait for the greeting to finish and enter the numeric message using the telephone keypad. When you are finished, you can either press the # key, or hang up to send the message. The subscriber will receive a message that reads: "Please Phone:" followed by the numbers you entered. Back to top.

4. How do I send a message via email?

Paging messages can be sent to a BlackBerry Paging subscriber using the following format: 724xxxxxxx@pagebb.com where "xxxxxxx" is the subscriber's 7-digit paging PIN. This message will reach the BlackBerry handheld as an alphanumeric page that cannot be replied to. Back to top.

5. How do I send a message via the Internet?

Pages can be sent to BlackBerry Paging subscribers via our website at http://www.blackberry.net/support/paging/send/index.shtml. Again, you must have the Paging PIN - the 7-digit number that is provided to you by the subscriber. This message will reach the BlackBerry as an alphanumeric page that cannot be replied to. Back to top.

6. What is TAP and how do I use it?

TAP is an acronym for Telocator Alphanumeric input Protocol. It is an industry standard which allows communication directly from a computer (usually via a modem) to a paging terminal. Essentially it allows someone at a computer with a modem to dial directly into our paging service provider's terminal and send an alphanumeric page to the BlackBerry handheld. There are many different types of proprietary software that can be used to send TAP messages, many are inexpensive or shareware and are available on the Internet for download.

TAP software usually requires the user to populate a few simple fields: the TAP phone number; the paging PIN; the message; and occasionally some modem parameters. Our specific TAP information is as follows:
Phone: 877-766-6670
Modem Parameters:
