Settlement - What does this Mean for BlackBerry?
From Reuters Newswire (Wednesday March 16th):
TORONTO, March 16 - BlackBerry wireless e-mail device maker Research
In Motion Ltd. (RIM) said on Wednesday it will pay $450 million to
settle its three-year patent dispute with NTP Inc., sending its
stock soaring more than 17 percent. Analysts said the settlement was
good news for RIM because it removes a major legal overhang for the
Waterloo, Ontario-based company, including the risk it could be
barred from selling its flagship product in the United States.
What does this mean for the future of
the BlackBerry Product?

The
$450M had been already set aside by RIM a long time ago so this
will have no financial effect on RIM the company or the future
availability of BlackBerry product.
|
|
The
BlackBerry Built-in and BlackBerry Connect programs can now move
forward here in the USA. This means that in a relatively short
timeframe you will see BES connectivity offered for other mobile
device platforms such as Palm OS, Pocket PC, Java and Symbian
devices.
