New BlackBerry Handhelds on the Horizon
In the near term
we should see some great developments for the next generation
BlackBerry device. The press has been all over the upcoming
BlackBerry 8700 series which is said to have the following new
feature enhancements over the current
7200 series full keyboard models:
- One model Quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE
and one EV-DO
-
Bluetooth 2.0
- 312 MHz processor
- 16MB RAM/64MB ROM
- Thinner and narrower
form factor with send/end keys
- Integrated Speakerphone
- Very high-resolution color screen
Release of this
model is only speculative at this point but most sources are
saying sometime in Q4 or Q1. One launch that we will see later
this month is the T-Mobile 7105t. This uplift to the
7100t is mainly cosmetic however there will be enhancements
made to the keyboard and most notable the screen.
Stay tuned to

Palm to Go Windows Mobile on Next Treo
Device Launch
Last Tuesday PalmOne the device
manufacturer for the Treo handheld device announced that the next
Treo model to be available (Treo 700w) will have the
Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. Until now Palm One has
exclusively used spinoff PalmSource's Palm handheld OS.
Palm became the 42nd licensee of the
Windows Mobile system, which nabbed its first phone customer just
two years ago. Sales in Microsoft's Mobile and Embedded Devices
division reached $337 million in the fiscal year ending in June,
up about 36% from a year earlier. The unit is now roughly breaking
even. The Palm announcement, though widely expected, was
still a significant coup for Microsoft and a considerable hit for
rival PalmSource, which has been losing market share. Only
time will tell if the new Windows Mobile OS will be accepted by
Palm users as a replacement to their long time familiar friend the
Palm OS.
