New
Tricks for BlackBerry Users
Lock Your SIM Card
For security, you can enable associate a personal identification
number (PIN) to your SIM card. To remove a SIM card from one
handheld and use it in another, you must enable the security PIN
first. It is very easy to pop a SIM card into a shiny new
replacement phone and start using it straight away, which is one
of the reasons why mobile phone theft is on the increase.
To enable SIM card security on the handheld
1. From the handheld Home screen, select Options
2. Select SIM Card. The SIM Card screen appears.
3. Click the trackwheel and select Enable Security from the menu.
4. Enter the security PIN you want to use.
5. Click the trackwheel and select Save.
Transferring Address Book
A new feature was added in the newer devices that allows you to
easily transfer your Address Book via Bluetooth device. This could
be used if you were switching devices or if you wanted to share
your address book with a new colleague. To allow address book
sharing you need to do the following:
1. Options –> Bluetooth, if you Bluetooth is not enabled then you
will need to enable it.
2. In the Address Book Transfer field, select All or Hotlist only.
Hotlist only setting will transfer solely the contacts that you
have talked to recently over the phone.
3. Pair your device.
Optimizing Your SureType
Some that have switched from a full QWERTY keyboard to a
SureType enabled Blackberry have a hard time adjusting in the
beginning but then get comfortable after some time. There’s a
reason for that, SureType is suppose to ‘learn’ your habits over
time and the words suggestions become better. One reason is that
the OS will automatically add words to a custom wordlist. However
there are certain times where you will need to add or edit a word
yourself because SureType gets it wrong.
To add a word to your custom wordlist
1. From the Home screen on the device, go to Options.
2. In the Options list, select Custom Wordlist.
3. Click the trackwheel and select New.
4. Type your custom word.
5. Click the trackwheel and select Save.

Palm Treo 650 to Operate on BES Soon
According to
Research in Motion and Palm, the long awaited ability to connect
your Treo 650 to your BlackBerry Enterprise Server should be just
around the corner. Initially announced in October of 2005,
the RIM program called BlackBerry Connect should give Palm Treo
fans operating as lone wolves in their corporate BlackBerry
environment a lot to be happy about.
The feature
announced will allow Treo 650 users the following abilities once
connected to their BES server:
- Push-based email using the native inbox, Palm's VersaMail email
client
- Support for Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino
- Wireless calendar synchronization using the native Palm calendar
- Remote address lookup of corporate email directory
- Convenient email-attachment viewing
- Triple DES encryption and IT policy enforcement and commands
(such as remotely disabling or wiping email and PIM data from a
device in the event it is lost or stolen).
eAccess can assist and guide
you with this new ability. As a long time Palm partner, we
activate and support Palm Treo devices on the
T-Mobile, Cingular, Verizon, Sprint networks. Feel free to
contact eAccess
with your requirements so we can help make your rollout a
smooth one!
